-To BE or not to BE?-
What is the kindest thing another person has done for you? Share the story.
1. ‘Blessed are those who hunger & thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.’ - Matthew 5:6
Read Psalm 42:1. Think of a time when you were extremely hungry or thirsty. How does that longing compare to your longing to live righteously (in a way that honors God)?
Read John 6:35; Galatians 5:16; John 15:5. How would you describe someone who is living (walking) in the Spirit? How would you describe someone who is living (walking) in the flesh?
2. ‘Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.’ - Matthew 5:7
The word mercy means... “to be gracious, to console, to be sensitive. It’s compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.”
Share a story of a time when you showed someone mercy. How did it make you feel and how did it make them feel?
Read Galatians 6:7. How does Matthew 5:7 tie into this principle of sowing and reaping in Galatians 6:7?
3. ‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.’ - Matthew 5:8
Read Psalm 24:3-4. When you think of a pure heart, what comes to your mind?
Online pornography viewing has increased a hundredfold over the past 10 years alone. Did any of Pastor Bryan’s statistics regarding pornography surprise you? What would you consider to be the primary dangers of pornography?
Read II Corinthians 10:5; Philippians 4:8-9. The battle for purity begins in one’s mind. How would you advise someone to “take captive every thought” to make it obedient to Christ?
Read Hebrews 10:24-25; James 5:16. Why is it so important to have a safe person in your life with whom you can share your struggles? Do you have such a person?
Choose one of these three areas - righteousness, mercy or purity – and ask God to help you grow stronger in that arena of your life.
If you don’t have an accountability partner to whom you can confess your struggles, begin praying and thinking about someone who might play that role in your life.
